Is it safe for animals to fly in cargo?

It is safer and faster and it is a more humane way to relocate your pet by air than driving them a long distance on the ground. Animals travel on the plane in a dedicated climate-controlled, pressurized area with dimmed lights that tend to calm down even the most anxious pets. Complying with the latest IATA Live Animal Regulations, many airlines have temperature embargos to avoid exposing animals to extreme temperatures on both departure and arrival. All handlers who come in contact with your pet will be well-trained and give special attention to your pet. The most important part is down to you: crate training. We have provided a few tips about crate training in our pet travel tips section for you.

What do I need to prepare before my pet can travel?

To begin with, your pet must be microchipped and at least 12-15 weeks old to be accepted for travel. A pet passport and a rabies vaccination record that has been at least 30 days old but is less than three (and occasionally one) years are also necessary for an overseas move. Closer to departure day we will need to see a veterinary health certificate, in its original form, issued within 10 days of the time of travel. Your pet relocation may need an additional import permit, veterinary examination, quarantine, and other special documentation depending on the destination country; however, we are here to assist you with all these and give you stress-free travel tailored to your and your pet’s needs.

Should I sedate my pet?

Absolutely no! There are various hazards associated with the use of sedatives when it comes to flying your pet. Most tranquillizing drugs have the effect of lowering blood pressure, which occurs naturally at high altitudes. The combination of altitude and drugs are known to hamper the natural ability of your pet to adapt to changes in pressure, temperature and altitude therefore pets under anaesthesia are more likely to suffer injuries and health problems when flying. Calming by crate training before the journey is the best option to prepare your pet to get on board.

Can pets travel during hot weather?

If you're planning to travel with your pet during summer, make sure to keep your furry friend hydrated before the flight. Our pet handlers will assess their health both before departure and upon arrival. We prioritize your pet's safety and well-being, so we'll reschedule the flight if the weather conditions aren't safe for them. We will provide a bowl attached to the crate door and can even freeze a second bowl for extra hydration in hot weather. Additionally, we suggest trimming long-haired pets and providing them with a well-ventilated crate when travelling during hot seasons.

Will my pet get fed during their trip?

Taking care of your pet during transportation is important to us. To ensure their comfort, we recommend not feeding them immediately before collection to prevent motion sickness. For international flights departing in the morning, it's best to feed your pet the night before and not in the morning to avoid any potential mess inside their travel crate. However, if your pet's flight departs in the afternoon or evening, we suggest giving their last meal six hours before collection or airport drop-off. If your pet has a stopover, our care team will provide them with a small portion of food. We understand the importance of keeping your pet comfortable and healthy throughout their journey, and we take every precaution to ensure their safety and well-being.
